Unable to hail any vessels in the area to assist, the Coast Guard Cutter Albacore was diverted from patrol to help.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard sector North Carolina received a distress call from the boat reporting the boat was disabled and taking in water.

The main had fallen overboard but then managed to climb back aboard the vessel and await help.

Two people aboard the smaller boat were airlifted to safety and a Coast Guard ship towed the other vessel to a nearby marina.
